Session 1
The first activity was an opportunity for ICT Subject Leaders to discuss issues
and progress with their School Based Technicians (SBTs). This was the second time
the SBTs had been invited to the conference and it was a real success. Groups discussed
issues such as network structure, email, fault logs etc but mainly it was a chance
for everyone to share the good practise that is going on in Newham Primary Schools.
Feed back from all involved was very positive! Click here to download the
discussion notes.

SBTs and ICT Subject Leaders sharing ideas
Session 2 was an opportunity for the ICT Subject Leaders to get
their hands on some computers. Delegates had three activities:-
-
Complete an online survey - the summary of which can be viewed here. The purpose of
this was to get a snapshot of ICT in Newham's Primary schools.
Click here for more analysis. Colleagues who would like their answers sent
to them should email Karen, Ken or Pippa.
-
Investigate Promethean's free online ActivPrimary Training Resources.
ITASS ActivPrimary courses are generally oversubscribed and this excellent set of
tutorials and assessments has a built in accreditation path for teachers wanting
to obtain a "Professional User Certificate". Schools can introduce this to staff
as an additional training method and as a way of meeting different learning styles.
All ITASS ActivPrimary courses make reference to these online materials.
-
Investigate a social bookmarking service del.icio.us which gives
users the ability to collect, tag and share web favourites online.

Hands on activities
Session 3
Four teachers from different Newham Primary schools gave short presentations
on how they had been successfully using the Promethean Activote
system in their classrooms. This was a chance for delegates to see real life examples
of how this technology was enhancing teaching and learning in many subject areas
and to ask questions about its use. The presenters were:- Faye Spooner
(Essex ), Sue Morton (Curwen), Paul Goodrich (Drew)
and Lisa Care (Upton Cross) who all did a fantastic job of showing
us the benefits of the technology! Click here to download
their presentations.
Clockwise from top left: (1) Sue linked using the Actvote system with Assessment
for Learning. (2) Faye explained the benefits using Activotes have made to Speaking
and Listening in her class. (3) Paul demonstrated how Y4 science lessons can be
further enhanced. (4) Lisa showed examples of how she was using the technology to
include all pupils in her Reception class.
Lunch was provided this year and everyone enjoyed a hot Indian
buffet. According to the evaluations, this was a very popular aspect
of the day!
Session 4.
Delegates watched a demonstration of two new Samsung Visualisers
that can be used in conjunction with your Promethean Activboard. Click here to visit Promethean's
Visualiser web page.
As always, ITASS will be negotiating best prices for this equipment. If you would
like to indicate an interest in purchasing visualisers for your school, please contact
Graham Pragnell.
Session 5.
Nile class (Y3) from Plaistow Primary school joined the conference in the afternoon
to show delegates how they had been using Sony PSPs in their lessons. The children
confidently demonstrated the various functions of the device including sound, video
